What follows is a short text in Catalan promoting a public event side-by-side with my own translation and the official, uncredited translation that appeared on the same website as the original. I offer it as a brief comparison of how my work stacks up against that of other translators.

DEBAT D’ART I CIÈNCIA

ART & SCIENCE, A CONVERSATION
If the arts and sciences can be said to have anything at all in common it would have to be humankind’s primal instinct to plunge into the world around us with all our senses engaged, to grasp it with all the tools and faculties—real and imagined—at our disposal. What happens when art, science and technology all work together in concert? What have we learned from such shared projects? What do the participating scientists, technologists and artists get out of the deal? What about the rest of us?
Lurking beneath these questions are universal conundrums about the natural world, existence, and ultimately about what makes us human. In this deeply informed, far ranging conversation, three world-renowned practitioners working at the crossroads of art and science will discuss a handful of places where the two have converged and cross-fertilized one another and will reflect upon issues that emerge from such encounters.

DISCUSSION ABOUT ART & SCIENCE
To talk about art and science is to talk about mankind’s vocational urge to go out into the world with all its senses and try to understand it with the tools and knowledge that it has (real or imagined). What happens when art, science and technology work together? What have we learned so far about this collaboration? What do scientists, technologists and artists get out of it? And society and people in general?
Behind these questions there are universal question marks about mankind, nature, life, the world and the universe, and about the experiences that shape us as human beings. This dialogue between internationally renowned experts hopes to show examples of the hybridization of art and science, and to reflect on these and many other questions with a far-reaching informed view.
